We are pleased to keep you updated about the Sassa Says Grant Payment Glitch Is Fixed
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is responsible for distributing social grants to beneficiaries across the country.
The agency typically distributes grants on a monthly basis and beneficiaries are able to withdraw their grant payments at anytime after the payment date.
Here are the Sassa grant payment dates for March 2023:
- Older Person’s Grants – Thursday, 2 March 2023
- Disability Grants – Friday, 3 March 2023
- Child Support and other grants – Monday, 6 March 2023
Many beneficiaries were unable to collect their Older Persons grant as they stated that there was no money on their Sassa cards. This left many Sassa pensioners concerned about how they would cope without their grants.
There has now been a response from Sassa who say this was due to a technical glitch experienced by Postbank but the issue is now resolved.
Sassa has reminded beneficiaries that they do not need to collect their grant on the exact payment date. Once the grant is paid, the money will remain available until the beneficiary chooses to collect their grant.
So anyone who was unable to collect their grant in the last few days can now return to a payment point to get their money.
Beneficiaries can collect their funds using many different methods which include collecting money at ATMs, retail stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-Save, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer stores.
In order to collect grant payments, beneficiaries must provide their ID and cellphone numbers and they must ensure that this is the same cellphone number that they used to register on the Sassa database, as a confirmation pin will be sent to this number to prevent fraud.
Sassa has encouraged beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to provide their bank of choice as a preferred payment method to be able to access and collect their monies from anywhere.
SRD grant beneficiaries have also been warned not to collect their grant payments at the South African Post Office (SAPO), as the post office is no longer an outlet for grant payment collection.
