How To Check Your Sassa Grant Appeal Status
If your application is among the millions of social grant beneficiaries has been declined, there’s an opportunity for you to lodge an appeal so that your application may be reconsidered.
On a monthly basis, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) distributes various social grants to vulnerable individuals across the country.
According to the Agency, almost 18 million individuals benefit from permanent social grants such as the Older Person grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top Up, and Grant-in-aid.
A Sassa appeal for the R350 grant is a process where a person can request a review of a decision made by Sassa regarding their social grant application; specifically for the SRD grant.
This could include an appeal for the rejection of a grant application, the amount of the grant awarded, or a cancellation of a grant.
Appeals are there if your application was denied the first time around and you want to be considered again, essentially acting as a second chance.
How To Check Your Sassa Grant Appeal Status
You must do a status check on your appeal to make sure that it hasn’t got lost in the SASSA system. To check on your SASSA grant appeal status you need to have your ID number with you. This is how you will track your grant appeal and find out your grant appeal status.
- Visit the SRD grant appeals website.
- Click on the green bar that reads ‘click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status’.
- Fill in all the required fields.
- Select ‘send pin’.
- You will receive an SMS containing a verification PIN from Sassa.
- Enter the PIN you received and click ‘submit’.
- Choose the month you are submitting an appeal for.
- Select the reason for your appeal.
- Click ‘submit’.
You can also call the Sassa Call Centre on their cell phone number which is 0800 601 011. If you’ve already submitted an appeal and gained approval, you don’t need to submit another one or contact the Sassa office.
The outcome of your appeal will be relayed through a confirmation message via SMS.
Payments will then be done from the month you initially applied during, once your Sassa SRD status has received a final decision. You should make sure that Sassa has your bank account details so that the grant can be paid to you directly.
So, if you applied for the SRD grant during May 2023, you will be paid for the month of May and again during the current month (June 2023). It won’t necessarily be a double payment at once, but may be spread out between two or three weeks.
Make sure to be aware of the dates allocated for the time to submit a grant appeal. Once it closes, you will have missed your second chance.
