The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) allows beneficiaries to check their balances. If you’re a beneficiary of a permanent grant, you can check your balance by following these steps:
- DialĀ *120*3210# on your phone
- Follow the prompts
Should that USSD code not work, do the following:
- Dial *120*69277# on your phone
- Follow the prompts
Sassa has urged beneficiaries to follow the steps above instead of going to an ATM to check their balance. In addition to this,Ā beneficiaries must make sure to not give their Sassa card or pin to anyone they do not highly trust.
Created in 2005, Sassa has been distributing social grants on behalf of the Department of Social Development. This was done to improve the standards of living in the country, particularly for those most vulnerable.
Among the permanent grants distributed by the agency, include: theĀ Care Dependency Grant, Child Support Grant,Ā Disability Grant, Foster Child Grant,Ā Old Persons Grant,Ā War Veteran’s Grant among others.
There are also other temporary grants, such as the Social Relief of Distress grant, which was introduced during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
